Come to an exciting speaker event with Jonathan Gordon – Director of NYP Ventures at New York Presbyterian Hospital. The event will involve a lively discussion of the newly formed NYP Ventures as well as opportunities for involvement with NYP. Afterwards there will be a networking happy hour. The event is a must for those interested in the intersection of medicine, engineering, and business.
NYP Ventures is a small team within NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) that is responsible for tech transfer, strategic partnerships and venture investment, with the goals of improving the patient and clinician experience of care and fostering a culture of innovation. NYP Ventures collaborates closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the organization, including the Innovation Center/IT, the Investment Office, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Legal, Strategy, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, Population Health, Network and clinical leadership.

What: HTA Speaker Series – an opportunity to interact with a pioneer and thought-leader in the biotech and pharmaceutical community.
Who: Dr. Paul Maddon – Dr. Maddon founded Progenics Pharmaceuticals in 1986 while still an MD/PhD student here at Columbia. During his career at Progenics, he collaborated on groundbreaking therapies targeting the role of CD4 and CCR5 receptors in HIV as well as commercializing new medicines in the areas of gastroenterology, oncology and infectious diseases. Since retiring in 2012, he continues to serve as director and senior advisor for a number biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in addition to numerous philanthropic activities. He is currently a Trustee at Columbia University.

The CEO of Fortress, Dr. Lindsay Rosenwald, has been a prolific and successful investor in the life sciences industry for over 20 years, and has started over 50 healthcare companies. He will be speaking to us about his experiences in the industry and about current career opportunities for people with a background/interest in medicine. Plus, you will have the opportunity to listen to the pitches of others and/or give an informal and brief (5 minute) pitch of your idea (at any stage of development). Lindsay Rosenwald, along with our audience will provide feedback for the purpose of refining your idea such that it is specific, valuable, and actionable. On Tuesday, February 24th, Sam Sia, the founder of Harlem Biospace, will speak on his experience as a biomedical entrepreneur and startups in NYC.

Harlem Biospace (Hb) is a first-of-its kind biotech incubator in NYC, offering wet-lab space to early-stage startups.
This will be our second workshop of the year, where attendees will have the opportunity to choose from two tracks:
- The Explorer Track is for those who are looking to brainstorm and network with other entrepreneurial-minded colleagues from different schools.
- The Launcher Track caters to those who have an established group or business idea, from either a past HTA workshop or outside of HTA, and are looking for mentorship, guidance and networking opportunities.
At the end of the workshop, those interested will have the chance to pitch their ideas. We’ll provide food and drinks as well.
