HealthHacks Hackathon!

We invite you to join us for Columbia’s inaugural HealthHacks hackathon! In partnership with IBM Watson we will have a weekend full of cool hacks, GIVEAWAYS, PRIZES, and FOOD. In addition, STMicroelectronics, in close collaboration with IBM Watson, will provide lots of great hardware to work with. This is a great opportunity for YOU to meet IBMers and learn about all the interesting opportunities at the company.

HTA & HCIA Present Jonathan Gordon of NYP Ventures – Strategic Investment in Health Technology

Come to an exciting speaker event with Jonathan Gordon – Director of NYP Ventures at New York Presbyterian Hospital.  The event will involve a lively discussion of the newly formed NYP Ventures as well as opportunities for involvement with NYP.  Afterwards there will be a networking happy hour.  The event is a must for those interested in the intersection of medicine, engineering, and business.

NYP Ventures is a small team within NewYork-­Presbyterian (NYP) that is responsible for tech transfer, strategic partnerships and venture investment, with the goals of improving the patient and clinician experience of care and fostering a culture of innovation. NYP Ventures collaborates closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the organization, including the Innovation Center/IT, the Investment Office, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Legal, Strategy, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, Population Health, Network and clinical leadership.

The Health Tech Assembly (HTA), Columbia’s collaborative community across the Medical, Engineering and Business Schools is excited to announce our next event on Monday, April 25th featuring Dr. Paul Maddon, the Founder and Vice Chairman of Progenics Pharmaceuticals.  
 
Following the event we will host an informal networking event at Arts & Crafts Beer Parlour.

What: HTA Speaker Series – an opportunity to interact with a pioneer and thought-leader in the biotech and pharmaceutical community. 
 
Who: Dr. Paul Maddon – Dr. Maddon founded Progenics Pharmaceuticals in 1986 while still an MD/PhD student here at Columbia.  During his career at Progenics, he collaborated on groundbreaking therapies targeting the role of CD4 and CCR5 receptors in HIV as well as commercializing new medicines in the areas of gastroenterology, oncology and infectious diseases.  Since retiring in 2012, he continues to serve as director and senior advisor for a number biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in addition to numerous philanthropic activities.  He is currently a Trustee at Columbia University.

HTA Presents: The Refinery with Lindsay Rosenwald from Fortress Biotech

Hello everyone!
We will be hosting an event that we call The Refinery on Wednesday, March 8th at 6:00 PM on the 20th floor of the Presbyterian Hospital building (PH20). Join us and Dr. Lindsay Rosenwald of Fortress Biotech, hear pitches from the audience or pitch your next big idea! RSVP for the event here.

 

The CEO of Fortress, Dr. Lindsay Rosenwald, has been a prolific and successful investor in the life sciences industry for over 20 years, and has started over 50 healthcare companies. He will be speaking to us about his experiences in the industry and about current career opportunities for people with a background/interest in medicine. Plus, you will have the opportunity to listen to the pitches of others and/or give an informal and brief (5 minute) pitch of your idea (at any stage of development). Lindsay Rosenwald, along with our audience will provide feedback for the purpose of refining your idea such that it is specific, valuable, and actionable. Hello everyone!


Hope all is well. We’re reaching out to let you know about the next Health Tech Assembly event on Thursday,  March 13th. The response to our last meeting was extremely positive, and we are very much looking forward to another great session!

This will be our third workshop of the year, where attendees will have the opportunity to choose from two tracks:

  • The Explorer Track is for those who are looking to brainstorm and network with other entrepreneurial-minded colleagues from different schools.
  • The Launcher Track caters to those who have an established group or business idea, from either a past HTA workshop or outside of HTA, and are looking for mentorship, guidance and networking opportunities.

At the end of the workshop, those interested will have the chance to pitch their ideas. We’ll provide food and drinks as well.

Donna See, the director of Columbia Technology Ventures, will also join us to speak about money and mentoring for medtech innovation at Columbia.
